RICHMOND, VIRGINIA (November 5, 2009) --- Kenneth T. Roeber, an attorney at the firm of Sands Anderson Marks & Miller, P.C., was recognized as Auxiliary Officer of the Year for his volunteer service with the Chesterfield County Police Auxiliary Unit at the Department’s Recognition and Awards Ceremony, held on October 22nd at the Victory Tabernacle Church, firm president M. Pierce Rucker reported today.

“Ken continues to show his dedication to the law through his significant community service in Chesterfield and is an example to our other lawyers and staff, who give of their time and energy to hundreds of community causes,” said Rucker. “As far as we know, he is the only Richmond lawyer who also serves as a sworn police officer on his own time.”

Roeber was recognized for making 104 arrests in 2008, including 5 DUI arrests, and for his “exemplary” commitment to volunteer service.

Roeber graduated from the Chesterfield County Police Academy, became certified as a law enforcement officer by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services, and was sworn in as a police officer in 2006.  He is a full-time medical malpractice defense and healthcare attorney with the Healthcare Practice Group at the law firm and is developing a civil rights and law enforcement defense practice based on his interest in law enforcement.

“Being part of the police force gives me an intimate exposure to the justice system and furthers my desire to serve my community,” explained Roeber. “It is a thrill to be out in the field responding to calls and protecting citizens,” he said.

Roeber earned his J.D. at the College of William and Mary School of Law and his B.A. at the University of Virginia. He has been in private practice for over ten years.
