Attorney Erica Rogers is now a North Carolina State Bar Board Certified Specialist in Trademark Law

Attorneys seeking this specialization must meet stringent standards established by the Board of Legal Specialization of the North Carolina State Bar. These requirements encompass extensive involvement in the practice area, a meticulous peer review process, completion of specialized continuing legal education courses, and a comprehensive six-hour examination.

By meeting these rigorous criteria, Erica has showcased her exceptional knowledge of trademark law, ensuring clients receive the utmost level of proficiency and service.

"There is no doubt that Erica epitomizes what our firm values most - experience, client service, and commitment to building the very best team," remarked Angela Doughty, who is also a Board Certified Specialist in Trademark Law and leader of Ward and Smith's Intellectual Property Practice Group. "She has worked tirelessly to achieve this recognition, and it is well-deserved."

With Erica's credentialing, the number of Ward and Smith attorneys holding this esteemed trademark law designation has increased to three, alongside Art DeBaugh. To maintain this certification, each of them must undergo recertification, including a peer review, every five years.

Erica works with individuals, small companies, and large businesses on an array of intellectual property issues. Her practice entails trademark selection, clearance, registration, dispute resolution, and portfolio management; similarly, she deals with copyright matters related to ownership, acquisition, protection, and enforcement.

As the leader of the firm's NIL Practice Group, Erica is experienced in overseeing licensing agreements between corporations and athletes for the commercial use of their name, image, and likeness. With the rapidly evolving laws and regulations in this space, Erica utilizes her knowledge to negotiate and draft licenses, helping business partners take advantage of these opportunities.
