OMIG Expands Compliance Review Lookback Window to One Year
June 27, 2025
By: Kaydeen M. Maitland and Gabriel S. Oberfield, Esq., M.S.J.
Bond has reported extensively on efforts of the New York State Office of the Medicaid Inspector General (“OMIG”), since 2023, to conduct expanded compliance reviews under the authority of Title 18 New York Codes, Rules and Regulations Part 521. The OMIG recently announced that as of July 1, 2025, newly initiated Compliance Program Reviews (“CPRs”) under 521 will cover a 12-month program period, rather than the 90-day lookback that has characterized reviews since the 2023 kickoff. More information from the OMIG on this change may be found here.
The OMIG pursues CPRs to evaluate whether covered providers have effectively adopted, implemented and maintained compliance programs in alignment with 521. Bond has supported numerous clients through the navigation of such reviews. For further inquiries concerning the OMIG’s shift to the 12-month window, providers may refer to OMIG's compliance homepage or contact the Bureau at compliance@omig.ny.gov.
Bond invites you to join us this fall for our ongoing Webinar series with the OMIG. We'll continue our deep dive into the critical aspects of compliance and operational integrity within New York State's Medicaid program. A date for our 9th program in the series soon will be announced. If you’d like to check on the readiness of your compliance program, this would be a good time to contact Bond. Should you have any questions concerning this update, please contact Bond attorneys Kaydeen M. Maitland, Gabriel S. Oberfield Esq., M.S.J., or the Bond attorney with whom you work regularly.
